Project Notes: The Pangan Residence is a 1-story house w/ a walkout basement perched on top of a hill in Santa Clara County, CA.  The home featured 360-degree decks protruding 8 to 13 feet from the supporting walls.  The thin deck profile required very large custom fabricated wide flange beams to be tapered down over the length of the cantilever where they terminate into a structural gutter channel.  The roof also featured similar cantilevers that, coupled with the decks and the location atop the hill, made gusting wind a force to be reckoned with, even in the heavily seismic-governed region.
